Lacrosse Shootout Tournament

Equinox Lacrosse Association (ELA) welcomes 72 teams to its annual Equinox Shootout to be held Saturday and Sunday, June 4 and June 5 at the Manchester Rec park. Students in grades 5/6 and 7/8 make up the teams; the boys playing on Saturday and the girls on Sunday. Teams from Vermont, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire will compete. Admission is free. Over 2000 are expected to attend. There will be food tents, equipment vendors, tournament T-shirts and stick stringing available. While the boys’ game emphasizes physical prowess, speed and skill, the girls’ game emphasizes quickness and stick skills, for two very different games sharing the same roots. The first truly North American sport, lacrosse was played by various tribes of the Iroquois. ELA hosts teams from kindergarten to eighth grade. Teamwork, conditioning, eye-hand coordination and leadership skills are all taught by volunteer coaches with high school and college level experience.
