32nd Weston Craft Show This Weekend
The 32nd annual Weston Craft Show will take place this Columbus Day weekend, Friday to Sunday, October 9 to 11, at the Weston Playhouse on the Village Green, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $8. The works of 48 juried Vermont artisans will be exhibited, including baskets, ceramics, fiber, folk art, glass, jewelry, lighting, photography, sculpture and wood. Among the artisans at the event is woodturner Rich DeTrano from Ludlow, who was the recipient of the People’s Choice Award last year at the Weston Craft Show. DeTrano uses locally sourced wood and highlights the natural features of the wood, including its imperfections and peculiarities.
Five new Vermont artisans will be welcomed to the show, including Carolyn Gorham Guest, who as a young adult spent six months living and working in Poland where she was introduced to the Polish folk art of wycinanki (paper cutting.) She uses only sheep shearing shears in her work as a tribute to her Polish teachers.
More then 100 volunteers come together each year to produce the Craft Show, whose proceeds benefit the preservation of Weston’s historic museums. Luncheon catered by the Weston Marketplace will be available in the Café at the Falls overlooking the West River. For more details and a listing of all exhibitors, visit westoncraftshow.com.
