500 ‘Caring Blankets’ Delivered to Homeless
Thanks to the generosity of so many, You Are Never Alone Foundation has delivered 500 ‘I Matter, You Matter’ Caring Blankets to Bennington County Coalition for the Homeless, PAVE (Project Against Violent Encounters), Veterans Outreach and the Family Resource Center in Bennington; Groundworks Collaborative in Brattleboro; and Good Samaritan Haven and Churches in Barre, where they are being given to homeless individuals and families. Christopher Oldham, director of Bennington County Coalition for the Homeless, expressed the importance of the blankets, stating, “Persons and families staying in our shelters, or living on the street are gaining accesses to these wonderful and useful gifts. The warmth of the caring blankets goes far beyond the material they are made of. Those who have received these blankets are incredibly thankful, not only for the gift, but the thoughtbehind them. It speaks volumes for those who are broken and wounded by what has happened to them. Each blanket sends a strong message of hope, love and a gentle reminder that everyone matters.” Homelessness is a growing reality in our community and our state. Each one of us can make a difference. One place to start is to spread awareness about homelessness. Another is to volunteer at shelters or food kitchens or to raise funds to support the local organizations that are helping homeless individuals and families.
