A Call for ‘Dreadful Art’ at the Pember
The Pember Library and Museum in Granville, N.Y., announces that MOBA, the prestigious Museum of Bad Art in Boston, Mass., will be collaborating with them for ‘Dreadful Art II,’ a contrarian exhibit scheduled to open on Friday, August 7, from 7 to 9 p.m. A recorded video presentation and tour of the MOBA galleries will also run that evening. Live music will be provided by Da Prof N Starr – singers/songwriters Jess Youngquest and Nora Starr, who perform on an array of musical instruments and gadgets. Food and refreshments will be available. “This is a significant event for the Pember and connoisseurs of art,” said event organizer Rob McGuire. “MOBA is recognized by the Times of London as one of the ‘Fifty Greatest Museums’ in the world. Last year’s ‘Dreadful Art’ at the Pember was a big success, so we asked MOBA if they would like to be bad with us for round two. Two bads make a worse, MOBA agreed, and graciously lent us 13 infinitely bad works from their permanent collection, setting the bar to which all bad art must aspire.” The exhibit will remain on display through August. McGuire has issued an open call to area artists who are willing to lend the worst examples of their work for the show; they can be ideas that didn’t develop or experiments that went off a cliff. “We want to see it!” he said. There will be a voted grand prize for Most Dreadful. The Pember Library and Museum is located at 33 West Main Street in Granville, N.Y. Call 518-642-1515 or visit thepember.com for details.
