A Day to Celebrate Immigrants and Diversity

The Berkshire Immigrant Center is pleased to announce that Immigrants’ Day in the Berkshires is back on the annual schedule, after a one-year hiatus due to budget cuts. Immigrants’ Day is a popular event that celebrates the cultural and social contributions of immigrants. It will be held on Saturday, October 19, from 4 to 8, at Morningside Community School, located at 100 Burbank Street in Pittsfield, Mass. The event is free and open to the public. More than 500 participants are expected to attend this year’s Immigrants’ Day celebration. The program will be presented in English and Spanish.

“Immigrants’ Day in the Berkshires aims to unite local immigrants and native Berkshire residents in recognizing and celebrating the contributions of our rapidly growing immigrant community,” said Hilary Greene, director of the Berkshire Immigrant Center, the host of the event. “Our immigrants are playing an increasingly important role in the economic and social life of the Berkshires, and we want to thank them and to show our support.”

Highlights include a free smorgasbord of ethnic foods donated from restaurants throughout the county, and multicultural entertainment featuring the Berkshire Bateria, the Highland Band and the Multicultural Dancers.

Attendees can also receive a free consultation from an experienced immigration attorney or tax specialist or get questions answered by a representative from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.  Spanish-speaking interpreters will be available for the private consultations, and interpreters of other languages can be requested by calling 413-445-4881 several days in advance of the event.

Supervised childcare will be provided, and will feature a puppet and clown show, drumming session, games, crafts and musical activities.

The Berkshire Immigrant Center provides citizenship assistance, immigration information, advocacy, referrals and counseling to the immigrant communities of Berkshire County and its surrounding areas.
