There will be a lot going on in Dorset on Saturday, July 9, thanks to two local non-profits: The Dorset Library and the Dorset Historical Society (DHS). Start the day with a hike to the town’s historic Folsom Quarry. The group will meet at the Dorset Historical Society, located at the corner of Route 30 and Kent Hill Road, at 9 a.m. to carpool to the trail head. Following their return, hikers – along with everybody else – are invited to stroll across the road to enjoy a cookout to celebrate Dog Days of July at the Dorset Library from 12 to 3 p.m. All dogs and their humans are welcome to attend this fun event. Returning guests Second Chance Animal Center will be offering educational information and answering your questions on adopting a furry friend.

Ann Gavett, trainer and owner of Manchester’s Pets Etc.  will give a 15-minute demonstration at 2 p.m., featuring Milla the Library Pug. There will also be contests, prizes and a dog-friendly cake to celebrate Milla’s second anniversary of finding her forever home. Back across the street on the lawn of the Bley House Museum, DHS will hold its annual Ice Cream Social from 1 to 3 p.m. It’s all free!
