A Winter Serenade
On Saturday, December 10, at 4 p.m., a new chorus called Northshire Voices will perform its inaugural concert, ‘Winter Serenade,’ at the First Congregational Church (FCC) in Manchester. They will be joined for this program of winter wolstice and Advent music by the FCC’s Chancel Choir and Tall Spire Ringers, directed by Linda Hueckel, who celebrates her 30th anniversary this year as its director of the FCC Chancel Choir; she is also director of Northshire Voices. The core singers of the group, formerly known as Manchester Community Chorus, sang at Manchester Music Festival’s last concert of the season in August directed by Ari Rudiakov. Since then, the group has been renamed and augmented by numerous singers in the Northshire area and beyond, including high schoolers, musical theatre performers and church choir members. Professional musicians sing alongside amateurs ranging from strong soloists to those who needed to dust off their vocal chords after a few year’s absence, but all members love to sing music any chance they get. Rehearsals are now in full swing for the concert, but the chorus continues to accept new members for future concerts and is especially seeking male singers.
