Artscape Issues Call for Artists
Artscape, the public art program in the city of Pittsfield, Mass., has issued a call for artists for the 2015-16 installation season. The program, which installs sculptures throughout the city’s Upstreet Cultural District, is open to local, national and international artists. The sculptures are expected to span a broad spectrum, from decorative to inspirational, functional to whimsical. Out-of-the-box, diverse works are encouraged; whether serious or creatively interpreted, abstract or objective, artists have a free hand in determining their approach.
Proposals are juried by the Artscape Committee composed of artists, arts administrators and community members. The exhibition of the selected works will be between May 2015 and May 2016. Installations will take place in April, 2015. Some technical assistance, approved by the Artscape committee on a project-by-project basis, may be provided to install work. Artists whose work is accepted are granted financial support in the amount of $500.
For the first time, applications can be submitted online, thanks to the support of the Berkshire Art Association. Background information, a brochure of the current installation and submission forms are available at pittsfieldsculpture2015.artcall.org. For those unable to submit online, printed copies of the Call for Artists are available from Rebecca Tefft in the Office of Community Development, Pittsfield City Hall, Room 205, 70 Allen Street, Pittsfield Mass., or email email@example.com. Completed proposals must be received in the office of Community Development by midnight on Nov. 17, 2014.
