Co-presidents of the Quiet Valley Quilters Guild, Pat Lafontaine and Nelle Knapp, recently presented Joy Kitchell, (center) director of the Bennington County Child Advocacy Center, with 45 teddy bears and quilts in coordinating storage bags, to be given to children who are victims of abuse. The Guild made the quilts and storage bags and purchased the teddy bears from Mary Meyers, a Vermont company.

The Bennington Area Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice starts up its spring course for Hospice Volunteer training beginning on Thursday, March 17, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. It will take place in the Women’s and Children’s Conference Room at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, located at 100 Hospital Street, Bennington. The course runs for nine consecutive Thursdays, and is free and open to the public. Hospice care volunteers provide support to people with life- limiting illnesses and their families in the home, hospital and nursing facilities. Volunteer training includes an introduction to hospice care, education on death, dying and grief, and the development of communication and support skills. Space is limited, so preregistration is requested. For more information, contact Mary Pleasant, volunteer coordinator, at 802-442-0540.
