BBA French Students Rank in National Contest
Nine students from Burr and Burton Academy earned medals in the 84th annual Le Grand Concours, a national competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French, where students are evaluated for their written and listening comprehension skills in French. More than 75,000 students from 50 states competed in the 2019 event. For the first time ever, BBA has a student who has placed first in the nation in a category! Iren Hangen-Vazquez of Dorset has earned a Platinum medal by placing first regionally and first nationally at Level 4E. BBA students Jack Martin earned a Bronze medal at Level 2; Matt Sabol and Juan Calvo de las Heras earned Silver medals at Level 2; and Amos Smithwick earned a Gold medal at Level 2. In Level 4, Noah Price and Alejandro Shapiro-Mochòn earned Silver medals; and Chenru Xu earned a Bronze medal. Shepard Siegel also earned a Silver medal at the highest national level (Level 5). Ten students earned national Honorable Mentions at various levels: Evangeline Bulick, Kate Martin, Sofia Sukiennik, Luigi Travalglini, Hannah Cyr, Molly Murphy-Major, Madelyn Goebel, Esther Mackenzie and Itembe Matiku.
