BBA to Stage ‘RENT’
Burr and Burton Academy’s Performing Arts Department presents ‘RENT,’ Tuesday through Saturday, May 15 to 19, at 6:30 p.m. in the Riley Center for the Arts on campus. Set in the gritty East Village of NYC, Jonathan Larson’s Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical is loosely based upon Puccini’s opera, ‘La Boheme.’ This rock musical imaginatively tells the story of a group of starving artists whose lives entwine and mesh over the span of the year. Join the cast as their characters fall in love, deal with devastating illness, discover their voice of humanity and bring alive the universal message of love and hope.
The cast features Matthew Scott, Gregory Townsend, Jillian Grip, Daniel Jackson, Greta Schaub, Emily Asciutto, Colvin Hathaway and Koben Pottala, along with a rocking ensemble that will raise the roof!
The production team consists of director Jim Raposa, musical directors Julie Freebern and Michael Garvey, set design Paul Molinelli, light design Stuart Duke, sound design Neil Freebern and students Casey Mara and Katelyn Hemmer as production stage manager, Olivia Saunders, assistant to the director, and Riley Vogel, dance captain. Tickets are $7 for BBA students, faculty and staff, and $12 for the general public. They can be purchased at bbatickets.com.
