Bennington Celebrates 29th Mayfest Arts and Craft Festival

On Saturday, May 24, the Better Bennington Corporation will be hosting the 29th annual Mayfest Arts and Craft Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine. Portions of Bennington’s Main Street, Valentine Street, School Street and Silver Street will be closed for the event. Thanks to the hard work and assistance of over 40 volunteers,Mayfest will feature over 100 crafters, artisans, entertainers and ethnic food vendors with Thai, Indian, German and American specialties, plus fresh baked items, fried dough, crab cakes, ice cream, kettle corn, shaved ice, maple products and much more. There is plenty of seating, both in the shade on the lawns or at tables near the Main Stage in the Food Court.

Main Street will also be tuned into a showcase of free entertainment with four stages featuring local and regional talent. Headliners include the Hill Hollow Band and Black Mountain Symphony. Also appearing will be Wild Country Cloggers, children’s entertainer, Whirligigs, classical violinist Anna Peterson, Immune Friction, Barry Hyman, Crossover Cloggers and more. The Kid Zone in the parking area of Lenny Nichols garage, will be home to the 4H Shooting Range, the Army National Guard Rock Climbing Wall, MAUHS Football Team Dunking Booth and Trustco Bank Bouncy House. Kids can also find face painting and hair braiding hosted by area not-for-profit organizations. Parents with little children or pets can find come solitude at the indoor Infant Care area and Canine Care station.

Along with all the activities and vendors, all of downtown Bennington’s Shops will be open for business. The Bennington Farmers’ Market will be in full swing with their outdoor summer market right around the corner on River Walk at the Bennington Station. Mayfest is free to the public and free parking can be found in all municipal parking areas and along many of the sides streets throughout downtown. Information booths will be located at Putnam Square, and across from the food court on School Street.
