Bennington Coalition Opens Drop-in Center

Bennington Coalition for the Homeless is excited to announce the opening of the Drop-in Service Center at 250 North Street in downtown Bennington. The Drop-in Service Center will be open seven days a week, Monday through Friday 10 to 4 and Saturday and Sunday 10 to 2. The center will provide a much-needed, one-stop location for people to access a myriad of services. In addition to connecting people to social services, the center will serve as a location for training classes, rehabilitative therapy activities, internet connectivity, telephone use and a personal mailing address for clients.

Case management staff will assess needs, connect clients to partner agencies, work with landlords to secure permanent housing, and provide one-on-one case management. After-care service coordinators will follow up with clients in permanent housing to ensure sustainability and keep them connected to needed services.

The Drop-in Service Center will also serve as the overnight emergency shelter, or Good Shepard Shelter. Good Shepard welcomes guests each night on a first-come first-served basis. Good Shepard Emergency Shelter opens at 7 each evening and closes at 7 each morning. Intake specialists encourage guests of the emergency shelter to return for case management services during Drop-in Center hours. Winter hours for the emergency shelter begin November 1, with doors open for intake at 4.

Bennington Coalition for the Homeless will continue to operate Thatcher House at 212 Pleasant Street for interim housing, and 111-115 1/2 McCall Street for transitional housing. All services for Coalition residents will be provided at 250 North Street.

These transformative changes will allow The Coalition to serve many people in a more efficient and cost effective manner. Financial sustainability of the organization and an increase in self-sufficiency for our clients will be attainable goals under the new consolidated services plan in downtown Bennington.

We wish to thank the community for voting to financially support the homeless population during the last election.

The Coalition invites visitors to the Drop-in Service Center and become more familiar our services. Anyone interested in volunteering or wishing to make a donation can contact Bennington Coalition for the Homeless, 802-442-2424, or email [email protected]
