Bennington Farmers’ Market Event to Celebrate Spring
Bennington Farmers’ Market will celebrate the start of another growing season with a special event on Saturday, April 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 601 Main Street, Bennington. The event will focus on building relationships with the natural world through gardening, foraging and respecting wildlife and nature. On display will be some uncultivated edible or otherwise usable greens growing in the area like wild leeks, garlic mustard and catnip. Examples of homemade and re-purposed containers suitable for starting garden plants will be shown with instructions for making them at home. Children will be able to help birds build their nests by making their own bird fluff bags. They will also be able to assemble seedling kits and learn more about growing vegetables through games and coloring sheets. Adult gardeners will be able to have their soil’s pH level tested. Local farmers, cooks, bakers, artisans and craftspeople will also be at this final indoor market of spring. In May the market will move outdoors to its summer location, the River Walk at Walloomsac Park on Depot Street. For information, call Audrey Pietrucha at 802-733-6981.
