Treat yourself to the taste of bratwurst, knockwurst, wienerschnitzel, pirogies and other great-tasting German foods, along with specialty German brews, fall brews on tap and delicious wines, at the sixth annual Norshaft Lions Oktoberfest, planned for Saturday, October 8. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Colgate Park, Route 9 west, Bennington. The original Octoberfest was held in 1810 in Munich, Germany, to celebrate a royal wedding, and has continued to be held annually since 1811, being cancelled only during wartime and outbreaks of cholera.
Bennington’s Octoberfest is a fun-filled family day offering dancing to music provided by the Rymanowski Brothers, who have been entertaining audiences in the Capital District and tri-state area for years. You will also find art and craft vendors offering Vermont products and children’s activities, including hayrides and face-painting. Admission is $5, with children under age 12 free. The Norshaft Lions is a nonprofit organization; net proceeds from Octoberfest go directly towards community support, including providing hearing aids and eye glasses for needy area residents; vision screenings for children; financial support and training of seeing eye dogs, and much more.
