Sawyer S., a third grade student at the Village School of North Bennington, was selected as one of only 13 Vermont winners of Casella Waste System’s calendar art contest, out of 423 Vermont submissions and over 2,300 northeast submissions. His winning drawing will be featured in the 2019 Casella calendar. He was also awarded a $25 TD Bank Gift Card as part of the award. The purpose of the contest is to encourage students to reduce, reuse and recycle as much as possible. Sawyer’s class had a discussion on how many ways there are to reduce waste entering landfills, and why it’s important to the environment, then created their own drawings of how they would do this.
