Bennington Talk on 19th-Century Abolistionist & Publisher

The Bennington Historical Society will sponsor a presentation at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, on William Lloyd Garrison, the 19th-century abolitionist, with Tyler Resch. Admission to the talk, held in the Ada Paresky Gallery of the Bennington Museum, is free. When he was 23 years old, Garrison lived in Bennington from 1828 to 29, when he published a weekly newspaper, The Journal of the Times. Though he came for political reasons to back the candidacy of John Quincy Adams, he developed the strong anti-slavery views that he later drew upon during his later 30-year career as publisher of The Liberator, a nationally influential journal.
