Berkshire Arc Awarded Mini-Grant
Berkshire County Arc was one of 10 agencies this year awarded a $10,000 Respite Innovation Mini-Grant by the Massachusetts Lifespan Respite Coalition. The mini-grant supports the Respite Caregiver Voucher Project, which provides respite support to families caring for a loved one with adult onset conditions, including Alzheimer’s, brain injury and multiple sclerosis; individuals who are in need of emergency respite care; individuals who are in need of residential care; and those who do not qualify for other existing services.
The project benefits caregivers by providing some relief from daily caregiving responsibilities for a few hours, a half day, overnight or a weekend, and provides in-home respite care, if needed.
“This respite grant is so important because it helps families who do not get additional support for caring for their loved one at home. We’ve already assisted 18 families, and one family member has already told us that this has been a Godsend for her family,” commented Maryann Hyatt, the director of Berkshire County Arc’s Adult Family Care Program.
