Great Backyard Bird Count.

The next walk at Hildene, the Lincoln Family Home will be Saturday, February 15, meeting at the Welcome Center at 8 a.m. The free monthly bird walks are conducted as a collaborative event by the Vermont Bird Place & Skywatch and Hildene. They are open to all who enjoy birds, nature and the outdoors. Binoculars are available to borrow. Wear appropriate dress for the day.

This is the same weekend as the Great Backyard Bird Count (February 14 to 17) conducted by Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the Audubon Society. Last year’s GBBC shattered records after going global for the first time, thanks to integration with the eBird online checklist program. Participants reported their bird sightings from all seven continents, including 111 countries and independent territories. More than 34.5 million birds and 3,610 species were recorded – nearly one-third of the world’s total bird species documented in just four days. Go to birdsource.org/gbbc for information on how to participate.

The results of the monthly Hildene survey will be reported on e-bird and tallied with other reports for the GBBC. Contact Randy at 802-362-2270 for more information about these events. The next bird survey at Hildene will be March 15.
