Buddy Walk Raises Nearly $14,000
Approximately 1,100 people participated in the seventh annual Buddy Walk of the Berkshires on Saturday, October 5, 2013. Nearly $14,000 was raised to support the Down Syndrome Family Group in their mission of inspiring, educating and supporting people with Down syndrome and their families, and in raising awareness of Down syndrome across Berkshire County.
Attendees included Senator Ben Downing, Berkshire County Sherriff Tom Bowler, Massachusetts State Representative Paul W. Mark and Massachusetts State Representative Tricia Farley-Bouvier. Several area businesses donated food and their time, including The Dalton Firemen’s Association, Subway, SweetPea’s and Bartlett Orchards. Pony rides were provided by PartyTime Ponies, and other children’s games and activities were organized by the Wahconah Track and Field Team, McCann’s SkillsUSA group and the Girl Scouts. Music was performed by Berkshire Hills Music Academy, and Street Legal Auto donated a classic car for the event.
The Berkshire County Arc Down Syndrome Family Group currently supports 35 families living in Berkshire County who have a family member with Down syndrome.
