Cambridge Balloon Festival
The 15th annual Cambridge Valley Balloon Festival happens Friday to Sunday, June 3 to 5,in and around the beautiful historic village of Cambridge, N.Y. The event, organized by the Cambridge Valley Chamber of Commerce, organizer of the event, says there will be four launches of ten hot air balloons, Friday and Saturday evening and Saturday and Sunday morning. All launches take place at the Cambridge Central School on Route 22, wind and weather permitting. Evening launches typically occur around 7 p.m.; morning launches at 5:30 a.m.
Between the launches, the Cambridge community throws out the red carpet and provides a myriad of activities to entertain the crowds. Community businesses through the Chamber host a fantastic fireworks display on Friday evening at the Cambridge Guest Home Park on South Union Street. On Saturday, a ‘Taste of Cambridge’ at the same location showcases local food producers and restaurants, followed by the annual Moon Glow, a spectacular night time display of tethered hot air balloons lit from inside in time to music. Sunday brings an end to the official festival activities with a Pilots Breakfast, a great opportunity to meet the pilots and discuss the details of ballooning with the experts.
Local organizations augment the festival to showcase the Cambridge community. At the school, there are rides, carnival games, food vendors and sporting events. In the Village, activities such as craft fairs, farmers’ markets, museum tours, concerts, car show and gallery events occur.Information will be posted at cambridgenychamber.com.
