Carris Foundation Donates to Women’s Shelter
In their long tradition of community giving, the Carris Foundation, the employee-led philanthropic foundation of Carris Reels, delivered a check for $2,000 at a presentation on August 22 at the Rutland County Women’s Network and Shelter. Ever since the company was founded in Rutland in 1951, the employee-owned Carris Reels has been a strong advocate for improving the quality of life for the community.
Carris is hopeful these monies will help in some way to slow down and one day eliminate domestic violence,” said Karin McGrath, Foundation Committee Chair.
“Since 1979, the mission of the Rutland County Women’s Network and Shelter has been to provide the shelter, services and advocacy that help rebuild the lives of thousands of women and children who have been the victims of abuse.” said Marianne Kennedy, Executive Director. “Our focus is on advocacy and crisis services to protect our community, and education and outreach to prevent further domestic violence and sexual assault. We can only provide these services through help from donors and funding partners. This generous donation from the Carris Foundation is a wonderful gift from the company’s employees, and a perfect example of the caring community that helps us meet need for our shelter and advocacy services in the county. Domestic violence can touch families anywhere, and having somewhere to turn like the Rutland County Women’s Network and Shelter can make a huge difference to someone moving forward to a safer life.”
