Christmas Tree Toss and Chili Contest Returns to Salem
On Saturday, January 23, from 1 to 4 p.m., the Courthouse Community Center in Salem, N.Y., will host its second Christmas Tree Toss and Chili Contest. Trees without stands or decorations may be dropped off at the CCC garden alongside Route 153/East Broadway near the garden sign, any time after Christmas and before January 23. Teams are being sought for the competitive throw: area fire departments, high school teams, church teams, farm teams and family and friends teams – all ages are welcome! While there, stay for the chili contest being held in the Youth Barn. Competitors with great chili recipes are being sought as well. For a $5 fee, a bowl and spoon will be provided to sample all the chili and corn bread. Beer and wine will be available. Hot chocolate and soft drinks will be offered for children. At the end of the afternoon, there will be a bonfire where the Christmas trees will be burned. The day will offer something for everyone, so bundle up and join us for some hearty winter fun.
