Citizen Scientists Needed for Bird Count

Local birders and nature enthusiasts are sought to join the Winhall area annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count (CBC) on Saturday, December 15. Participants may count from early morning to dusk covering many miles, survey an hour or two in a small neighborhood or just check on their feeder activity at home. Data collected allows researchers, conservation biologists, and other interested individuals to study the long-term health and status of bird populations across North, Central and South America. Many counters are needed within the 15-mile diameter Winhall circle; particularly important are counts from people living there who are feeding the birds. To participate, contact Ruth Stewart at 802-362-1185. Details about the protocol, history, results and count areas can be found at audubon.org. The CBC in the Bennington area is December 22; [email protected] In Rutland it is December 29; email [email protected] audubon.org.
