Arlington Chicken BBQ
On Saturday, August 27, the Federated Church of East Arlington will be hosting a Chicken Barbecue from 12 to 2 p.m. to benefit the Arlington Food Shelf. A full serving of barbecue chicken, corn on the cob, coleslaw, dessert and water/lemonade will be available. You can pre-buy tickets at the Church for $11 or buy a meal on the day of (while they last) for $12. Tickets will be available from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, Monday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 12 noon on Sundays at the Federated Church of East Arlington, Ice Pond Road, East Arlington. A Chicken and Biscuit Supper will be held on Thursday, August 25, at Granville Methodist Church at 18 Church Street in Granville, N.Y. Served from 5 to 7 p.m., the supper includes chicken and biscuits, real mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetable, cranberry sauce, cole slaw and homemade pies with beverages. Takes outs will be available. Tickets are $9 for adults and $4 for children five to 12. Ages four and under are free.
Tinmouth Library Book Sale
The annual Book Sale to benefit the Tinmouth Public Library will be held rain or shine on Saturday, August 27, starting at 8 a.m. From 12 noon to 1:30 p.m., you can fill a bag with as many books as you can for only $2. There are a large number of pre-owned hardcover and paperback books for adults and children at very reasonable prices, including cook books, mysteries and romances, along with books about Vermont and of local interest. Many of the children’s hardcover books are in perfect condition. Proceeds assist the Library in adding to its collection of books, books on CD and DVDs. Spanish Conversation Class
Sue Ritchie will be offering a Spanish Conversation class at the Manchester Community Library on Thursday, August 25, from 3 until 3:55 p.m. The classes are free and open to the public. Washington County Fair
New Your State’s Washington County Fair takes place from Monday through Sunday, August 22 to 28, offering entertainment, 4-H displays, food, music, rides and animals. It’s located along the Vermont border on Route 29 in Greenwich, N.Y. Events also include a professional rodeo with bull and bronco riding, barrel racing, team roping and more, Mutts Gone Nuts, cheese carving and live entertainment. Kids will especially enjoy Aggie Culture, the Incredible Talking Cow, an interactive educational tool that demonstrates the art of milking and teaches youngsters about the dairy industry. The fiberglass milking cow is handmade and hand painted. A hidden pump delivers constant fluid from the holding tank to the udders to the authentic stainless steel milking pail. Tractor & Agriculture Show
The third annual Walter A. Wood Tractor and Agriculture Show features antique and rare tractors and vintage farm equipment. Modern equipment is welcome, too. The show takes place on Saturday, October 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Wood Memorial Park in the Hoosick Falls, N.Y., the historic home of the Wood Reaping and Mowing Machine Company. A tractor parade kicks off at 10 a.m. The application period is open for vendors, antique and unique tractors, hit-and-miss engines, horse-drawn equipment and more. Spaces are outside and power is available. Become a sponsor for a $50 donation. Food, merchandise and farm equipment vendors are also encouraged to submit applications.
