Millie Dunn to Retire
Millie Dunn, RN Clinical Supervisor at Manchester Health Services, is retiring after 43 years with the agency. She will be moving to Florida with her husband, George, so they can be closer to family. To celebrate Millie’s many years of community service, the agency will be hosting an Open House on Thursday, October 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. The public is asked to come and share stories, enjoy cake and wish Millie all the best in her retirement. Pumpkins on Parade
The Arlington Garden Club will revive an old community favorite on Sunday, October 30, at the stone wall of Saint James Church in Arlington. Children and their families are invited to bring their carved pumpkins from 5 to 7 p.m. that day and place them on the wall for judging while all enjoy cider and donuts – and even a goody bag. Pittsford Chili Cook Off
Come compete in a Chili Cook-off at the Pittsford Recreation Area on Furnace Road in Pittsford from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 22. It’s free to enter your crockpot of chili – or make a donation to get a bowl and vote for your favorite. Prizes will be offered for first, second and third place winners. Drinks and baked goods will also be available. Proceeds go to Sara’s Stories, a new book program in Pittsford for kids up to age five. Sign up to enter the competition at signupgenius.com. Wells Rummage Sale
The Wells United Methodist Church will he holding a large Rummage Sale on Friday and Saturday, October 21 and 22, at the Church, located across from the Library on the green in Wells. Doors are open Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a bag sale. Bags are just $3 each; fill them as full as you can. Items will include fall and winter clothing, books, toys, household and miscellaneous items.
Manchester Texas Hold-em
The Manchester Eagles will be hosting a Texas Hold-em Tournament on Sunday, October 23, starting at 1 p.m. Doors will open at 12 noon. Proceeds will benefit the Dorset Players, an organization providing community theater to the Manchester area. Lunch will be provided at the break. ‘Moonlight in Vermont’
In recognition of its 35th anniversary, PAVE, the Project Against Violent Encounters, holds its annual community fundraiser, ‘Moonlight in Vermont,’ a wine tasting and pairing event on Saturday, October 22. Doors open at 6 p.m. at the Greenwall Auditorium of Bennington College. The event called will feature fare from area restaurants and silent and live auctions offering of a variety of quality wines and other items. Mark Vaughan, founding editor and publisher of Santé magazine, has selected wines for the event and will auction off over 35 lots of wines donated from a variety of vintners, as well as weekend getaways, dinners, jewelry, fine art, massages, ski tickets, memberships, gift certificates and more. Tinmouth Contra Dance
The next Contra Dance in Tinmouth will take place on Friday, October 21, from 8 to 11 p.m. Shindy will perform the music, with Randy Miller on fiddle and Roger Kahle on guitar. Luke Donforth will do the calling. All dances are taught, and you do not need a partner. If you are a beginner, come right at 8 for a beginner’s lesson. The dance takes place at the Tinmouth Community Center, located at 573 Route 140 in Tinmouth, five miles west of Wallingford. Bring clean, non-marring shoes.
