Conservation Districts to Hold Program on Growing Hemp in VT

A program on growing hemp in Vermont will be held on Monday, April 8, from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Rutland Free Library, 10 Court Street, Rutland, sponsored by the Bennington, Poultney-Mettowee and Rutland Conservation Districts. District agricultural specialist Stefano Pinna will give an introduction that will include plant characteristics and growing techniques, as well as RAPs (Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society), an organization involved with the regulation of healthcare and related products. Stephanie Smith of the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets will discuss how to register your crop and give an update on regulations for growers and processors. Farmers Joe Pimentel of Luce Farm in Stockbridge and Rye Matthews of Northeast Hemp Commodities in Middlebury will offer their views on growing and marketing hemp in Vermont.
