Cut Flowers Contest Winners
Manchester’s first public Cut Flower Competition, a collaborative event organized by Eons Creative with the participation of Green Mountain Academy for Lifelong Learning, Equinox Terrace, Tilting at Windmills Gallery and the Image Loft, was held this past July. All fresh-cut floral arrangements were judged on the basis of how close they were able to represent the floral style seen in the PBS Masterpiece Theatre production ‘Downton Abbey,’ by jury members Suzan Claytor, President and owner of Tilting at Windmills Gallery, Carolyn Brogan, owner of the Image Loft and Lindy Bowden, garden specialist at Mettowee Mill Nursery.
Manchester-based and internationally-acclaimed fine artist Thomas Torak (thomastorak.com), winner of 2013 SCNY First Prize at the fourth annual Sylvia Maria Glesmann Floral Exhibition, at the Salmagundi Club in New York, N.Y., and resident teacher at the Art Students League of New York, accepted an invitation to create an original oil painting of the winning arrangement by Anna Johanson.
Johanson will receive a mounted and framed 8×10 print on canvas of the original painting by Torak, courtesy of the Image Loft. The painting, titled ‘Anna’s Garden,’ is on view and for sale at Tilting at Windmills Gallery.
Second Prize winner Peggy Brogan, will receive a set of 25 printed notecards with envelopes and Third Prize winner, Cheryl Parker, will receive one 8×10 print on photo-rag paper; still life photography provided by Eons Creative and printing provided by the Image Loft. Both will receive a Blu-ray DVD set of all three seasons of ‘Downton Abbey,’ provided by Vermont Public Television.
Green Mountain Academy for Lifelong Learning, a non-profit organization based in Manchester, Vermont, is a vital community resource that is enriching the cultural and intellectual life of the community by offering lectures, courses and events.
