Dixieland Jazz in Grafton
The Almost Legendary Thundering Muskrats, a seven-man Dixieland band, will play at the Phelps Barn at the Grafton Inn, 92 Main Street, in Grafton, Vt., on Sunday, October 20, at 3. Come swing with the Muskrats as they play a repertoire of favorite sizzling Dixieland classics.
Devoted to the oldest and most beloved style of jazz, the Muskrats describe themselves as “performing at weddings, funerals, and other natural disasters.” The seven-piece lineup includes trumpet, tenor sax, soprano sax, trombone, and a second line with standup bass, keyboards and drums.
The Muskrats came together in 2005 to raise funds locally for musicians and school-aged victims of Hurricane Katrina. Their goal was to help the ravaged city of New Orleans, in hopes of giving back to the Birthplace of Jazz. Since that time, the Muskrats have performed throughout the Upper Valley, including the Hartland Jazz Festivals, fundraisers after Tropical Storm Irene, and events to celebrate the recovery of Woodstock, Vt. a year after Irene. The Muskrats also led the celebration across the newly reopened Taftsville, Vt. covered bridge.
Grafton Music Festival presents the concert, and the Grafton Inn has provided the venue. Admission is $10, with children 12 and under admitted free of charge. Tickets are available online at brattleborotix.com and at the venue. Doors open at 2. The bar will be open; after the concert the regular pub dinner menu will be offered.
