Event to Raise Funds for Beloved Music Teacher Dee Tigue
On Sunday, July 30, from 3 to 6 p.m., the community is invited to a lawn party, concert and historic house tour of the Gables Mansion to honor former opera singer and beloved singing teacher Dee Tigue, who volunteered for decades at Long Trail School and gave countless concerts to benefit the Southern Vermont Art Center, Vermont Symphony Orchestra and numerous other cultural institutions. Queen Elizabeth dubbed her ‘the American Nightengale.’ Four years ago, Dee’s car slid on black ice and flipped 40 feet over an embankment. She was trapped that night for almost 5 hours in sub-zero degrees temperatures. She sang her favorite operas to stay alive before her rescue. Seven surgeries later, she continues to spread joy and her love of music to children.
This event will raise funds to will help cover Dee’s catastrophic medical expenses. Even if you don’t know Dee personally, you are welcome to come. The 23-room Gables Mansion was Dee’s former residence, as well as the former home of Robert Todd Lincoln. Tickets begin at $50. Sponsors include The Perfect wife, Express Copy, Mother Myrick’s and Manchester Discount Beverege. Silent auction items include a ride in Treat Williams plane.
