Favorite Poem Project
The community is invited to share the poems that you love on Saturday, April 19, at 6 p.m. at Northshire Bookstore, in Manchester, Vt. when the Northshire Poetry Reading and Poetry Writing Groups will host the second Favorite Poem Project. Choose a favorite poem, tell us why it is your favorite, where you first read it, why you keep returning to it, and some information about the poet. The poem should not be one you, a friend or relative has written; it needs to be a poem that has been published, from the great history of poetry, that is a part of your life. The only written material should be the poem itself. This is not about literary criticism or a prepared speech; it’s about speaking from your heart and sharing a poem with us that you have history with. This event, begun by Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky in 1997, gives us a chance to hear poetry read aloud and shared and the opportunity to be introduced to new poets and to revisit old beloveds that we will hear read by others. Everyone will get five minutes in this hour-long event, and sign-up is required. Please send your name and your poem title to Claire North at [email protected] Following that, we will have a half hour of Local Poets’ Open Mic for local poets to read their work. This will also be through a sign-up sheet; email your name and poem title to Claire North at the above email address. Local poet Ellen Lytle – Homefront: New and Selected Poems – will emcee our local Open Mic. For more information, call 802-362-2200 or visit northshire.com.
