Fisher Elementary received a $2,000 Youth Literacy grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to support the school’s new Wilson Fundations reading program for students in Kindergarten through Second Grade. Fundations 30-minute daily lessons will provide students of various learning abilities with the skills needed for a better understanding of reading and spelling.  Fisher Elementary Principal Deanne Lacoste wrote the grant to support the Fundations program.  “We are very grateful to receive funding from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.  Fundations offers several features that we think will be of great benefit to our students and families including its emphasis on word structure and sounds, extensive practice opportunities for students to apply new skills and daily assessment monitoring of student comprehension. There is also a home packet that guides parents which allows for another level of support outside of the classroom.” For information, contact Lacoste at lacosted@bvsu.org or 802-375-6409.
