Fort Cabaret Festival
Fort Salem Theater opens its tenth fall at the Fort Cabaret Festival on Saturday, November 5, at 8 p.m., with Melissa Cook starring in ‘Taking the Lead,’ joined by singer Tim Nelson. A California native, Cook is a virtuoso vocalist, performing as a teen in the 1992 Super Bowl halftime show with Michael Jackson, singing and touring with the Young Americans. As lead classical vocalist for Silversea World Cruise, she performed with colleague Tim Nelson who created and performed its cabaret show. Nelson also moonlights as director once a year at Fort Salem Theater, where Cook has been featured in several lead roles. Together they will leave no great theater song unsung their first cabaret at Fort Salem. When the audience steps into the chapel attached to the renovated 1832 Presbyterian Church that is now Fort Salem Theater, they are transformed into a spiritual world of muse-inspired performances by talented and skilled artists. Doors open at 7:30 for the 8 p.m. curtain. Coffee and dessert are served with the $25 ticket. Seating is limited; reservations are required.
