Calling All Artisans and Crafters for Lee’s Founders Weekend
If you have a talent such as drawing caricatures, jewelry making, designing accessories, note cards or T-shirts, crafting small goods or painting, the Lee Chamber of Commerce would like to hear from you; they are currently accepting vendor applications for the 2013 Founders Weekend, September 20 to 22.
This annual celebration commemorates the Town’s 1777 founding, and offers a wide variety of activities and events. A Taste of Lee, featuring selections from the restaurants that line Main Street, kicks off the celebration Friday evening at 5, followed by dancing in the park from 8 until 10.
Saturday’s highlights include a parade along Main Street beginning at 11, followed by a fireman’s muster, giant tag sales around town from 9 to 4, and a Latino festival from 4 to 8.
On Sunday, the Kiwanis Club will sponsor a Pancake Breakfast from 8 to 11. From 1 to 3:30, there will be live musical performances in the park. In the afternoon, the Lee Youth Association will run a duck race with prizes.
Food, live entertainment, special prizes, sidewalk sales and street vendors add to the fun. “Everyone is welcome. The more variety we have in street vendors, the more interesting our visitors will find the event. The longer people stay, the more we all benefit. It’s a win-win for everyone,” said event organizer Joe Furgal. He noted, “Many local nonprofits and service organizations will benefit from this weekend.”
Artisans are asked to commit to seven hours on Friday, 3 to 10, five to eight hours on Saturday 9 to 2 or 5, depending on location, and five hours on Sunday (12 to 5). Participate one day, two days or all three days. There is a nominal fee. Download an application by going to LeeFoundersWeekend.com; stopping by the Lee Visitor Information Booth at 3 Park Place on the green in Lee, Ma. Monday through Saturday, 10 to 4; calling 413-243-1705 or emailing email@example.com. Deadline for vendor applications is Friday, September 13.
More information about the event itself will be forthcoming.
