Freedom 5K directors Katie Vandale and Andrea Malinowski of Training for More (TFM), presented Wendy LaPorte Petitt of Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center and Carson Thurber of Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and director of this year’s Remembrance Day, with two checks totaling $1,620. All profits from this inaugural race, which took place on June 4 in Bennington, went to the Cancer Center Community Crusaders and their Cancer Center Patient Reserve Fund, helping those receiving cancer treatment with expenses other than medical such as heat, groceries and other daily living expenses. Vandale and Malinowski thank all who supported the race. TFM is a women’s running/walking training group which strives to help out local charities with every race they participate in and help organize. A new beginner-level 5K training begins July 6. Contact Malinowski at andreamalin@gmail.com or 802-379-5468 to learn more.
