George Van Hook at the Armory
The work of noted Cambridge, N.Y. artist George Van Hook will be on exhibit at 120gallery90 at the Armory in Hoosick Falls, through January 10. Van Hook’s painterly style is reminiscent of European and American Impressionists. His love of nature and the rural scenes where he lives in upstate New York inspire his work.
Van Hook’s paintings have been exhibited for over 35 years throughout the United States, Europe and Japan. “The experience of seeing is the most important part of the process…my aim is to translate that experience onto the canvas. My eyes are so much better at that than the lens of the camera,” Van Hook says. “I am visually interacting with the objective world, but I go beyond that to bring my own sense of passion and commitment to the work. I paint everyday and hope to do so until the end.”
