Gifts from the Dorset Marsh
Artist, naturalist and local resident John Pitcher will be the guest speaker at the Dorset Historical Society’s Luncheon Lecture on Thursday, October 20. Pitcher will discuss his nature journaling, sketching and paintings of the fauna and flora around the Dorset Marsh beside his home. Pitcher’s paintings are in the permanent collections of art museums in Alaska, Wisconsin, New Jersey and Vermont. He was the recipient of the Best of Wildlife Award in the Arts for the Parks competition of the National Parks Service. Both he and his wife, Sue Westin, are members of the Society of Animal Artists. John will show one of his studio paintings, some of his nature journals, and offer handouts. The event will be held a t 12 noon, and takes place at the Bley House Museum at Route 30 and Kent Hill Road in Dorset. Bring a sandwich; dessert and liquid refreshment will be provided.
