Green Mountain Club
The Manchester Section of the Green Mountain Club will hike on the Old Job Trail and Long Trail on Friday, August 30. The group will meet at Shaw’s in Manchester at 10:30 a.m. to carpool to the trail, which goes from FR 30 to FR 10. It’s an easy beginner hike of 3.3 miles total distance and 60 feet in elevation gain. Bring snack, lunch and fluids, extra layer, raincoat just in case. The Killington Chapter will take to the Hawk Hill Trails in Brandon on Sunday, August 25. (In the event of rain, the hike will be postponed to Sunday, September 1). The group will begin at Otter Valley High School to climb Hawk Hill via Frohloff’s Loop and the Old Brandon
Road to visit a cemetery that goes back to the Revolutionary War. Anyone with transportation may return at that point, hiking about 1.5 miles round trip. The official hike will continue north on the Old Brandon Road past several cellar holes, then return by the Rossiter, Cutler and Ambier Trails, for beautiful views west and east from the rocky ridge, and then a walk along the base of the cliffs.
