Green Mountain Gardeners Complete Londonderry Project
In 2011 Hurricane Irene ripped through downtown Londonderry, devastating Main Street merchants and leaving a mess along the nearby West River.
For the past eight months, the Green Mountain Gardeners of Londonderry, Landgrove, Peru, Weston and Bondville have been hard at work planning and planting trees, shrubs and flower boxes along Londonderry’s Main Street.
With the help of the students from BBA’s Mountain Campus and BBA’s Sophomore class, the riverbank has been cleared of dead trees, invasive plants and wild shrubs. New stone benches now stand along the riverbank, enabling visitors to enjoy the river and a beautiful waterfall.
The master plan for plantings was done by Rugg Valley Landscaping; removal of dead trees was done by Arborview Tree and Land. Both of these services did much more than what their invoices reflected.
As a result of all of these efforts, Londonderry’s Main Street and riverbank has become more attractive every day, for all to enjoy.
