Catie Burke, a member of Bennington County’s State Attorney’s Office is collecting funds for  police dog Gunny, who will soon be graduating from the Police Academy on November 22. Gunny, who partners with Trooper Lew Hatch, does not yet have a ballistic vest to protect him once he is in the line of duty. A door popper is also needed; this is similar to a key fob, which the office carries with him at all times. Should Lew’s duties prevent him from returning to his car while Gunny is in it, the door popper will allow him to open the door or turn on the air conditioning. For those who would like to make a small donation, checks payable to Vermont Police Canine Association can be mailed to Catie Burke, P.O. Box 4404, Bennington, Vt., 05201; please note K9 Gunny. If you would like more information, call Catie Burke at 802-442-8116.
