Harvest Dinner & Silent Auction to Benefit Paralympic Skier
Join Heart of the Village Yoga in welcoming US paralympic skier Tyler Carter to a Farm-to-Table Harvest Dinner and Silent Auction on Sunday, September 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Burr and Burton Academy’s Rowland Center in Manchester. Tyler, who competed in the giant slalom ski event in the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, will share his experiences as a young athlete competing in adaptive sports, the gift of being different, and the value of following one’s dreams. Tyler was born without a fibula and had his right leg amputated as a baby. He lives life accepting his own limitations while breaking through the common barriers placed before him. Skiing provides him a pathway for self-expression and independence, and he has competed at the highest level. Tyler also spends much of his free time mentoring and inspiring others with disabilities and acts as a mentor with Classroom Champions, a program that inspires young people from under-served areas around the country to learn healthy living habits. He has come to Manchester from his home state of Pennsyvalnia to study yoga as a means of improving his performance and learning another practice to help others.
The evening’s silent auction items feature healthy active experiences such as a SUP (standup paddling) Adventure for four, gift certificates, private yoga sessions, a foursome round of golf with cart at Stratton Golf Course, Dinner for Two at Depot 62 and more. Dinner tickets, $30 for adults and $15 for age seven to 17, may be purchased online at bit.ly/2bv2ANw or at Heart of the Village Yoga, 3556 Main Street, Manchester. Proceeds will support Tyler’s quest to compete in the 2017 Alpine Skiing World Championships in Italy, and his ultimate goal to compete in the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games in South Korea.
