Hidden Gardens Tour Celebrates Art of the Garden
Spencertown Academy Arts Center will celebrate the art of the garden in the Hudson Valley with its 10th annual Hidden Gardens Tour, Lecture, and Garden Market on the Green, an annual launch of the summer season in Columbia County. The events are scheduled for Saturday, June 21 — the first day of summer. The centerpiece of the Hidden Gardens weekend is the self-guided tour of private gardens in Columbia County, which will take place on Saturday, June 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The grounds of six private residences in Chatham, East Chatham, Hillsdale, Ancram and Spencertown will be featured on the tour. The gardens, which range from personal and intimate retreats to grand landscapes, include an extensive country garden with views of the Catskills, a painter’s romantic English Style garden, an artist’s sculpture garden, a one-acre native flower meadow and more. The tour will take place rain or shine. Highlights include a lecture by gardening expert and radio personality C.L. Fornari, the Garden Market on the Green, and an exhibition of garden-related artworks by J. Ann Eldridge and by Bill Duffy. Proceeds benefit the Academy and its arts-in-education programs in local schools.
