Home for the Holidays in Bennington
The Bennington Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Vermont Veterans’ Home (VVH), invites the whole community to Bennington’s Home for the Holidays Celebration on Wednesday, December 5. Both organizations will host the annual lighting of the community tree at the Vermont Veterans’ Home at 5:30 p.m. (The tree will have over 2,000 feet of energy-efficient lights!) During the event, enjoy a performance by the Mount Anthony Union High School choir, hot chocolate, keynote dignitaries and a special visit from Santa Claus.
Afterward, walk along the lit path of VVH’s Deer Park with a possible visit from Saint Nick’s special friends, the reindeer, which will lead to an open house at the Bennington Area Chamber of Commerce at 100 Veteran’s Memorial Drive starting at 6:30 p.m. There will be musical performances, cookies, hot drinks, gingerbread house making, Catamount Connections, a roaring fire and more.
“This is a fun part of our ongoing community engagement,” says Matt Harrington, executive director of the Chamber. “It’s great to see so many families come out, celebrate the magic of the season and for us to partner with our good friends at the Veterans’ Home. This is our third year doing this, and we get such a kick out of welcoming both residents and visitors to this Bennington tradition.” Colonel Al Faxon, COO and deputy administrator at VVH, had this to add: “The Vermont Veterans’ Home is committed to being a strong community partner. We love to celebrate this time of year and are honored once again to be the host for the community tree this holiday season. The Chamber is always a great partner and we love doing this tradition with them.”
