House Concert in Sunderland to Feature Scottish Music
The acclaimed Celtic music trio Cantrip will be returning to Sunderland for a house concert at the home of the Houghtons on North Road on Friday, September 2. Cantrip is a dynamic and driving blend of fiddle, bagpipes, whistle, flute, bouzouki, guitar and mandolin. Members Jon Bews, Dan Houghton and Eric McDonald are known for their masterful musicality, dry wit, innovative arrangements and their sheer joy in playing together. They have delighted audiences in New England and internationally for the last 11 years. Although at home in front of large festival audiences, Cantrip delights in the intimacy of house concerts, which take traditional music back to its natural habitat in the parlors, kitchens and porches of everyday homes. The Houghtons’ wood-paneled house is an acoustically ideal venue for music, and a cosy place to congregate. Audience members are asked to bring food and drink to share at a potluck meal before the concert, and to make a donation for the musicians. To attend, call the Houghtons at 845-304-1572 for directions, and let them know what you’ll bring. The suggested donation for the musicians is $15. Seating is limited, so call early. Gathering and food will be at 6 p.m.; the music begins at 7:15.
