Jazz Pianist Makes Pittsfield Debut
Berkshires Jazz announces that pianist Miro Sprague will make his Pittsfield, Mass., debut in a special performance at 8 p.m. at Baba Louie’s Backroom on Saturday, July 19.
Sprague, a jazz pianist, composer and band leader, is known for his dynamic performance style and inspiring creativity. Growing up in western Massachusetts, he began playing piano at age 13, winning several awards and performing extensively in New England before moving to New York City to attend the Manhattan School of Music. In 2012 he was selected to attend the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance at UCLA, a prestigious, tuition-free jazz masters program that accepts one ensemble of musicians for each class. He returns to the Berkshires for his first gig after just finishing the two-year program, in which only seven musicians were accepted.
Jazz at Baba Louie’s is a production of Berkshires Jazz, a non-profit organization formed to present jazz events and promote jazz education in Berkshire County. Baba Louie’s Backroom is located at 34 Depot Street, Pittsfield. Ticket information and programming updates can be found at berkshiresjazz.org.
