Joe Miles Elected President, Vermont Retail Lumber Dealers
The Vermont Retail Lumber Dealers Association (VRLDA) held its annual Meeting and Golf Outing on August 28 at the Lake Morey Country Club in Fairlee, Vt., where Joe Miles of rk MILES, was elected President of the VRLDA for a two-year term. For the past two years, Miles has served as Vice President and Chairman of the Legislative Committee. Miles received the gavel from outgoing President Paul Koenig of Koenig Cedar, South Burlington, Vt. He thanked Koenig for his service to the board and shared his goals for the upcoming year. “My goals for the VRLDA are, first, to gather support and awareness within the Vermont legislature for the FAIR Act, which aims to limit a retailer’s exposure to product liability suits to a percentage of the total claim, versus shouldering the entire burden if the named manufacturer is out of business. Second, to complete the long range planning we started over a year ago, and begin to implement elements of the plan. Third, to promote and support the training offered by the VRLDA to our members. Lastly, to continue to reach out to retailers and get them involved in the VRLDA,” Miles said. The VRLDA provides independently-owned retail lumber dealers in Vermont with a voice to lawmakers and opportunities for its members. Rk MILES, a third generation family business since 1940, supplies lumber, building materials and home goods to southern Vermont and western Massachusetts. In 2005, rk MILES expanded to Middlebury, Vt. and Williamstown, Mass.; in 2008, they acquired the former Rugg Building Supply, which has become their newest location in West Hatfield, Mass.
