Keeping the Battenkill Clean

Childhood memories of fishing the Battenkill made Larry Casey, formerly of Queensbury, N.Y., and now living in Alaska, reach out to Battenkill Conservancy for help in how to address the neglected riverbank on the lower section of the Battenkill, beginning after the Battenkill Corridor Connection site in Middle Falls, N.Y., and ran along the back section of the Battenkill Country Club. A few phone calls were made and both Boralex Hydro, which maintains the Tailing Race Fishing Area, and the Battenkill Country Club were on board to assist with the clean up. Collecting the dozen stray golf balls and the lost, mismatched flip flops were par for the course. The companies’ regularly scheduled maintenance of the area should keep things in good shape, but stopping the culprits responsible for tossing more than 50 beer cans over the bank and into the woods requires a bit more effort.
