Krakauer-Tagg Duo to Perform
Yellow Barn presents its first Artist Residency concert of the year on Friday, September 11, at 8 p.m., at the Vermont Jazz Center, 72 Cotton Mill Hill, Brattleboro. Artists in residence include clarinetist David Krakauer, known worldwide for his dedication to a variety of styles and cultural collaborations, and pianist Kathleen Tagg, whose diverse work has garnered her performances and acclaim in the US and abroad. The duo and sound engineer Jay Eigenmann will spend their time in Vermont cultivating a project that expands the concept of the clarinet and piano recital by taking simple songs from folk and improvisation-based traditions and re-imagining them. Creating something orchestral in scope, their work will draw upon a rich variety of source material, including South African and klezmer traditions, tunes from Syrian clarinetist Kinan Azmeh and contemporary music from New York composer John Zorn, as well as original compositions.
