The vocal artistry of Bennington’s Katie Beck, assisted by a chamber orchestra drawn from local talent, is to be showcased at Old First Church on Sunday afternoon, October 27, at 3:30, under the direction of Old First’s music director and organist, Charles Olegar. The all-Bach program will feature Bach’s Cantata 170, an organ concerto and trio for flute, violin and harpsichord, and an audience-participation rendition of ‘Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.’  Admission is by free will donation.

Instrumental works will also figure prominently in the musicale. What will appear on the program as an organ concerto was used several times by Bach in different guises – as the opening Sinfonia of Cantata 146, as well as the first movement of the first harpsichord concerto, all preserving the original key of d minor. There will also be a trio consisting of flute, violin and harpsichord.
