Thatcher Michelsen and Erik Taylor are graduates of Burr and Burton Academy’s Class of 1998, and co-founders of VivaVerde, representing advanced water technologies, sustainability, permaculture and aquaponics education in Ecuador. The two have organized earthquake relief for Canoa, Ecuador, a town about the size of Manchester, which was very close to the epicenter of the 7.8 magnitude quake that hit the area last month. Basic supplies have been transported by guarded trucks, and now they are focusing on creating a portable pure water station for Canoa and then other hard-hit areas with clean water.
